Is the fishing really that good this year? You bet it is. The Coho are running wild, with guests catching and releasing Coho at a rate of about 4 to 1 on the chinook. They are so thick that guests are having difficulty getting their gear down through the layer of Coho. With hit after hit of these acrobatic salmon, guests are enjoying their feisty attitude and surging power. We have it on good authority that most guests emerge the winners in these battles!
The springs are also making their presence known with 6 masterfisherman crowned in the month of July. This strong showing follows the 65 lb. beast caught in late June, the current season record on the Charlotte Princess. But the battle is just as good as the prize. Just ask Ramona Howser of East Wenatchee, Washington. "We were running bait out about 50 feet, getting them down with 6-ounce weights, when all of a sudden I had this hit. When I set the hook, my rod bent double, and that King just took off." Turns out that King was a 55 lb. monster that after a lengthy battle, Ramona and her husband managed to haul in the boat. "Everything, from the first second I knew I had a big king on, getting it in the boat, to having it weighed at the ship, was all so thrilling."
