The Coho are so thick in the Langara area that the Department of Fisheries and Oceans has raised the limits to 4 per day, 8 possession, a good sign that the Coho stocks are back on track.
Anglers are limiting out on both Coho and Springs at the Charlotte Princess recently with Coho averaging 10-13 pounds and springs in the 25-35 pound range. Both types are putting up a fight and making anglers work to bring them into the boat. Stories about the 'one that got away' are heard around the dinner tables, but more often, its tales of the heroics of landing the 'big one.' Halibut fishing continues to be strong with both chicken and barn door halibut reaching the scales and several masterfisherman crowned in recent days. Those familiar with the Charlottes will recognize current weather patterns - wind, rain, fog and sun all within minutes.
Harland Radomske and his 10-year-old daughter Raley Mae of Ellensburg Washington enjoyed the Charlottes earlier this summer. "After a 45-minute battle, Raley Mae landed a 38-lb king and she was exhausted and proud! She would not let dad touch that pole during the fight except at the very end to help net it. After that she caught and released several fish and ended keeping a 31 lb dandy for her third keeper. Dad ended up taking home a 28 and an 18-lb fish so she is quick to tell all of our friends who brought home the biggest fish."
