If you think the salmon fishing was hot last season, just wait - 2002 is going to be even better!
Oak Bay Marine Group set records in 2001 with the greatest number of Masterfisherman catches in company history. Early indications from Fishing and Oceans Canada point towards a great outlook for the entire British Columbia coast in the 2002 season.
"Benefits from the strong conservation programs implemented over the past four years and apparent improved marine survival conditions are expected to provide more flexibility in managing the salmon stocks in the 2002 season."
What does that mean for you? Well, it means that you can expect to catch lots of fish and with the increase in productivity of the ocean feeding grounds; the size of fish you catch should continue to increase. "For recreational fisheries, it is anticipated that there will be improved opportunities compared to 2001..."
Here's a breakdown of the outlook as provided by Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
North Coast Resorts in the Queen Charlotte Islands
"Recreational anglers can expect a wide range of opportunities for all species in tidal waters. Chinook returns are expected to be strong. An improved status in West Coast Vancouver Island Chinook is expected to result in fewer restrictions in Queen Charlotte Islands fisheries and the improved Coho outlook is expected to provide for recreational limits of four per day in most North Coast areas."
The crew of all three resorts are buzzing with anticipation, waiting for you to join them on a fishing adventure of a lifetime. With increased limits in 2001 and great early season indications, 2002 is definitely the year to make your dream a reality.
Central Coast Resorts at Hakai Pass and Rivers Inlet
"As with the North Coast, anglers can expect a wide range of opportunities for all species in tidal waters. 2002 Coho returns are expected to show the continual rebuilding trend as observed in the north. Chinook stocks are generally good with a strong return expected. Recreational Chinook fishing opportunities are likely to be similar to 2001 and the improved Coho outlook is expected to provide for recreational limits of four per day in most Central Coast areas."
With new boats at King Salmon Resort and the expected increase in limits for both resorts, 2002 is projected to break all Oak Bay Marine Group records. Both resorts are perfectly positioned to take advantage of strong Chinook and Coho returns expected. 2002 is a year not to be missed.
